WHY A CIO?

Think of a CIO (Chief Information Officer) as business expert who knows technology as a second language.  A CIO talks business with you and speaks tech with your computer guys.

In a small company, you may wear many hats.  You run very tactically at first. The need for  strategy emerges later as you begin to scale, peel off hats and hire specialists (Finance, HR, Sales etc..).  Your IT is similar.  At first you hire a computer service, you grow more and require perhaps managed service from a Managed IT Services Provider.  Then, to scale larger, you recruit executive IT leadership to manage the complexities.

Like an outsourced CFO who leads your financial strategy, an outsourced CIO creates an unbiased technology strategy.  The CIO doesn't replace your IT guys.  A CIO makes them better.
